AP Government allotted Rs. 100 crores for the Godavari pushkaras 2015

The state government has allotted Rs. 100 crores for the next year Godavari pushkaras and a standing committee is also appointed to monitor the developmental works required for the festival. However, it seems the works haven’t started yet and there is little time to complete the necessary works.
The grand festival will be celebrated between June 28 2015 to July 9 2015 for 12 days. Last time, it was celebrated between July 30th to August 10 2003. A total of 545 projects with a total expenditure of Rs. 48 crores were proposed by the state government (TDP) at the beginning of last Pushkaras.
Some of the developmental works during last pushkaras were:

  • Development of Siva Linga fountain near Pushkar Ghat
  • Development of all major ghats
  • Development of Kambala Cheruvu park
  • Central lighting for roads up to 14km in the city
  • Widening of 26 roads in the city
This time, the same TDP government plans to make this event a grand success once again.
It is estimated that more than 2-3 crores of pilgrims will visit Rajahmundry this time. One of the important requirements is to accommodate such huge amount of tourists by providing proper hotel and lodging facilities. The government should plan to construct a “Punnami Resort Hotel” near the Godavari bank immediately to facilitate those pilgrims. Also, 10-15 luxury buses should be in place every day for tourists to travel to famous temples in the district like Dhraksharamam, Kotipalli, Samarlakota, Antarvedi, Pattiseemsa, Korukonda, Annavaram, etc. More AP Tourism boats from Rajahmundry to Bhadrachalam, Rajahmundry to Pichulanka shall be launched.
The construction of AP Tourism "Punnami" resort with up to 300 rooms and at least 2-3 business conference halls shall be started on immediate effect. This will give a great mileage for tourism in East Godavari. Also, it will prosper as a commercial centre for business and commercial conferences in future. The government can obtain good returns for this investment during Pushkara period itself.
Therefore, we request our local leaders to take this proposal forward, get a Punnami Hotel Resort granted for Rajahmundry and make it happen before next Pushkarams.
