3-day Kakinada Beach Festival from January 10

East Godavari gears up to break Guinness record of Vijayawada ‘Dosa’

Kakinada (East Godavari): The district administration has decided to organise Kakinada Beach Festival from January 10 to 12.

A decision to this effect was taken at the district tourism committee meeting chaired by District Collector Neethu Prasad at the Collectorate here on Wednesday. In this connection, the Collector requested the officials of various departments to show personal interest in organising the festival in a grand manner to attract tourists from all over the State. The festival should reflect the cultural grandeur of the district, she said.

The tourism committee decided to prepare the longest ‘Dosa’ in this festival with the cooperation of hoteliers of East Godavari district and break the record of  Vijayawada hotel owners association who prepared 11.64-metre-long ‘Dosa’ to gain entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The meeting also decided to organise Sand Festival by inviting eminent sculptors from Odisha apart from local sculptors.


The Collector said that every year this festival had been organised for three days in the beach of Vakalapudi and this time special efforts would be put on cultural promotion. Special food courts on traditional district food, exhibitions depicting the culture of the district, including the Buddhist sculpture, folk dances of the district were planned for his festival. She also directed the officials to make arrangements for lighting, traffic control, and tourist amenities during the festival.

Neethu Prasad said that tourism funds and assistance from the corporate firms would also be taken for this festival. Replicas of various temples in the district would also be displayed to attract many people, she added.

Kakinada Rural MLA P Anantha Lakshmi, Joint Collector R Mutyala Raju, Sub Collector (Rajahmundry) V Vijaya Rama Raju, and others were present at the meeting.
