Charred body of woman found in bush

The police on Friday recovered the body of a woman, suspected to have been burnt alive, from the bushes adjacent to the Kolkata-Chennai National Highway near Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district.

The police had failed in establishing the victim’s identity as the body was burnt beyond recognition and found in a highly decomposed state. Superintendent of Police K. Raghuram Reddy said the woman might have been murdered a couple of days ago. It was yet to be established during the investigation whether the victim was subjected to sexual assault before her murder, the SP said.

The only available clue on the scene of crime was a pair of men footwear. More than two assailants were believed to have been involved in the killing. The body was suspected to have been dumped into the bushes by the killers after burning it with some inflammable substances.

A special team of police was constituted with the Tadepallegudem CI as in-charge to investigate the case. A dog squad was also pressed into action in pursuit of clues about the murder.
